Welp! That is going to leave a mark. Starting the year 0-4 ATS is pitiful, but it could have easily been 2-2, ATS. The Pirate walked the plank and Waazu looked awful, and UGA looked like they could not stop my old IM flag football team from scoring. However, Mich. St (-6.5) dominated Boise (461 yds./206 yds.), missed 2 FGs, had 2 bad INTs and took a knee on the 14 yd. line to end the game. And your boy Kiffin/U$C (-41) decides to go for 2 on three occasions (converting 0 of them) and fails to cover by 2 points. Plus, my leans went 7-1 ATS last week which tells me I am not totally off, but need to prioritize things better. Gotta get back on the horse and keep grinding.

It is early in the year, but it appears there are 4-5 elite teams in CFB and then a big drop off to the next level. Bama, LSU, U$C, Oregon and F$U looked really good in week 1 and seem to be a notch above the rest. For the life of me, I cannot understand what some of these pollsters are thinking. Did they not watch any of the games last week? So. Car still in the top 10? Oklahoma remains at #5? Is UGA really the 7th best team?   They really should abolish the Coaches’ Poll. It is worthless. The coaches do not watch other games, rarely vote themselves and are inherently biased. I guess it will all come out in the wash, but I will be so happy when we get to the playoff system in 2014.

A decent slate of games this week highlighted by the noobs of the SEC hosting 2 huge games, one of which made the Locks. Here is hoping for a much better week this week. Follow, fade or forget ‘em. Onto this week’s picks.

1. NCST -4 @ UCONN – I look for a bounce back from the Pack this week as they take on a team that will look like they are moving in slow motion compared to what they saw last week. QB Glennon will not be under nearly as much duress and should have time to throw to WRs Payton and Palmer as well as TE Watson. Also, look for RB Creecy to be more of a focus this week. If the Pack D can slow down RB McCombs, then the pressure will be on JUCO QB Whitmer to deliver. The vaunted Pack secondary should make amends this weekend and provide an INT or two. I am not a huge fan of Huskie HC Pasqualoni, and think NCST gets back on track Saturday. NCST 30 UCONN 19

2. KSTATE -6.5 v. THE U – The Canes had a good win last week against BC, but are in store for a different animal this week as they travel to  Manhattan, KS. Miami is a very young and inexperienced team, and I look for them to have a let down this week. BC passed for over 400 yds. against the Canes, and Wildcat QB C. Klein could have a field day running and throwing. Also watch for RB J. Hubert to have a big day. this is a huge game for KSt. LB A. Brown (Miami transfer) and the Wildcat D will focus on stopping true frosh RB D. Johnson and putting the game in the hands of inconsistent QB S. Morris. I love  Wildcat HC B. Snyder as he usually has his team ready to play in spotlight games. KST 37 DA U 24

3. LA TECH -3 @ HOU – The Cougars are in a shambles. They lost to Texas St. last week and fired their OC in the wake of the embarrassment. Now they face a well coached team looking for revenge from last year. La Tech led Houston 34-7 last year only to have C. Keenum and Co. spark a comeback and win 35-34. La Tech did not play last week due to the Hurricane, but they were preparing for A&M who is now coached by former Houston HC Sumlin. Thus, the extra prep time can be used this week. La Tech returns 4 OL and a good QB C. Cameron and 2 very good WRs Patton and Banks. There will be no comeback this year. LT 41 HOU 30

4. FLORIDA +1 @ A&M – First SEC game at Kyle Field and the place will be insane. But A&M is playing their first game of the year, with a completely new offensive system, a new HC and a RS frosh QB Manziel. I know the Gates looked rough last week, but I expect their D to be stout and this environment to be nothing new to them. Look for RB Gillislee to have a big game as well as TE J. Reed and WRs F. Hammond and A. Dubose. A&M has a formidable OL and good RBs, but the Gators’ strength on D is stopping the run. this puts the pressure on Manziel who may make a mistake or 2 to cost them the game. Finally, how can you back a team that ahs all male cheerleaders (sorry, Yell leaders). The 12th man is no help this week, welcome to the SEC. FLA. 24 A&M 20
