LOCUST GROVE, GEORGIA - Locust Grove High School safety Cortez McDowell decided to announce his college decision a little but earlier than anticipated on Tuesday. The twenty-second ranked safety in the country according to rivals.com, McDowell chose the Vols over Alabama and Georgia, among others. It is quite a coup for Tennessee head man Butch Jones and his staff. McDowell was apparently the number one safety on Nick Saban's board at Alabama, who knows a thing or two about safeties, as Robert Lester, Mark Barron, and HaHa Clinton-Dix, among others, can attest. McDowell joins fellow safety prospect and Vol legacy Todd Kelly and Washington, D.C. cornerback D'Andre Payne in the defensive backfield for the Vols' 2014 class. More commitments are expected this weekend, and two of them may have futures in the secondary alongside McDowell: Evan Berry and Rashaan Gaulden. Stay tuned!
